Belgium, the current holders of the World Championship, are the top seed. They will compete in Pool B alongside the winners of the tournament in 2006, Germany, Korea, and Japan. Belgium is currently in second place, while Germany is in fourth place.
The Netherlands, who finished in second place in the previous tournament and are currently ranked third in the world, will compete in Pool C alongside the Oceania representative New Zealand, Malaysia, who are participating in their ninth World Cup, and debutants Chile.
Argentina, who won the hockey tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics, will play South Africa on the first day of the tournament at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, while World No. 1 Australia will play France on the same day. The schedule was released on Tuesday by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
The tournament will get underway in Rourkela with England playing Wales in the first game, while the start time for India’s game is 7:00 pm India Standard Time (IST).
