FIH, Hockey India Inspect Birsa Munda Stadium Months Before World Cup

In the city of Rourkela, Odisha, on Wednesday, a high-level team of hockey officials went to the stadium that is currently under construction to get a sense of the current state of affairs in preparation for the 2019 men’s world cup.
The group, which included members of the International Hockey Federation (also known as the FIH) and Hockey India, was pleased with the progress made thus far at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium.
They also inaugurated a training center there and took stock of the activities at Rourkela Airport, which will be used as a transit hub for the players, staff, and other individuals involved in the tournament.
Acting FIH President Seif Ahmed extended his congratulations to both Hockey India and Odisha for the work that they had accomplished.
At a press briefing, Ahmed expressed his desire for Rourkela and Bhubaneswar to host a very successful world cup by stating, “What we’ve seen today is fantastic, amazing.”
According to Thierry Weil, chief executive officer of the FIH, it is going to be the largest hockey stadium not only in India but most likely in the whole world.
Located in the Sundargarh district of western Odisha is a stadium that can hold 20,000 spectators. The 35-acre property is located within the larger 120-acre campus of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology and contains both the stadium and the accommodations.
According to S. Y. Quraishi, a member of the committee of administrators that is currently running the sport in the country, the committee is “extremely pleased” with the progress that has been made in the project.
The former chief election commissioner of Odisha stated that whatever is taking place in the state “is in safe hands,” and he also stated that everything was proceeding as planned.
This visit took place a day before the scheduled draw for the Men’s Hockey World Cup, which will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela simultaneously between January 13 and January 29. After successfully hosting the event in Bhubaneswar in 2018, this is the second time in a row that the state is playing host to the quadrennial gathering.
